Hola Grumers!
I’ve been hosting and selling all my courses on Thinkific for a few years now at Grumo School.
The other main alternative is Teachable, but after trying both, I decided to go for Thinkific.
There are 6 reasons why I chose Thinkific:
- Innovation: they keep bringing new features almost every week. Recently, they upgraded their checkout pages to increase conversions, and I’ve already seen an increase in sales after the change.
- Great support: Thinkific has grown a lot in just a few short years. They have close to 100 employees now, and many of them are dedicated to providing fast and efficient support.
- Customization: their new landing page builder is extremely powerful and easy to use. You can create high converting pages with a few clicks that include testimonials, call to actions, FAQ’s, logos, and even count down timers for upcoming launches.
- Integrations: they have integrations with most email marketing providers, Stripe, PayPal, and Zapier for automations. These integrations help you send messages automatically based on student behaviour and provide better support.
- Free Plan: Unlike Teachable, Thinkific offers a free plan that allows you to publish up to 3 courses for free. It’s a great way to test the platform at no risk and start making sales.
- Canadian based: Living in Canada, it feels great to support a local startup here in Vancouver. I’ve been to their headquarters a couple of times and even met Greg Smith, their super friendly CEO.
Teachable is a great alternative and offers many similar features, however recently, they got acquired by Hotmart, a Brazilian edtech platform, which makes their future uncertain as now they are under different management.
Now, I know many of you are looking for a robust place to host your courses. The other alternative is using WordPress and a plugin to manage courses. I used to do that, but after a few years I became very frustrated trying to maintain my own hosting infrastructure (continuous updates, failing plugins, unreliable payment integration, security issues, etc.)
Ok, I’m completely biased when it comes to making a fair comparison between Thinkific and Teachable. I’ve tried both, and I personally like more Thinkific. I’m also an affiliate for both and have promoted both on previous posts. However, it’s hard to ignore the fact Thinkific offers a free plan which includes tons of features you would have to pay a lot for on other platforms.
