I built Wordle with Glide! 🔠🙌

I did it! I built a fully working Wordle clone without coding using Glide.

BOOM! 🤯

It took a couple of days to figure out all the logic, but it works like a charm.

What’s Wordle? 🔠

If you’re not familiar with Wordle, it’s a game that has become incredibly popular recently.

Basically, you have up six attempts to guess the 5-letter word of the day correctly.

Millions of people play it every day and compete to see who guesses each word in the least amount of attempts.

It grew so fast that The New York Times acquired it for a 7-figure amount only a few months after being built by a software developer, aptly named Josh Wardle.

The inspiration 🤔

I didn’t think it was possible to build games using a tool like Glide. But recently, I kept finding more and more developers showcasing simple games made with Glide only.

Here are Mastermind, Boggle, and another Wordle clone.

The templates for those games are not available to download, so I set the challenge to recreate one of them (Wordle) from scratch.

Building the beast 😅

I was surprised to find out how intuitive was the development process. My Wordle clone ended up using just over 50 rows of data, and it even has extra features not available in the NY Times version.

My Wordle app uses the same dictionary as the NY version. Every day, it loads the same 5-letter word as the official game.

It also has:

  • A leaderboard with users ranked based on the number of games played and least attempts to guess the correct words.
  • A private team feature to compete against your friends that comes with a QR invitation feature.
  • A dashboard to keep track of your personal stats, including the average time to complete each game and correct guess distribution.

Anyway, I’m super proud of this project. Check this video to see how the app works → WATCH VIDEO

What do you think?

Peace. Love. Wordle-Cookies!
