My last email :(

I’m done with this experiment.

First of all I want to apologize for hammering your inbox for 7 days in a row.

I would hate receiving daily emails even from my best friend so I really appreciate that you’ve stuck with me so far.

This will be my LAST daily email. From now on you will hear from me only once a week (if you have a preferred day of the week please let me know)

Like I said on a previous email there are several reasons why I decided to write an email every day.

If you are interested in finding out the WHY and the RESULTS of this experiment please keep reading…

###### So why have I pestered with you with emails? ######

For the last 5 years I’ve been slowly collecting email addresses from my clients, students and web visitors. In total I’ve accumulated about 4000 contacts.

Starting January I decided to learn a bit more about marketing and in the last 5 months I’ve been spending tens of thousands of dollars learning, travelling, and meeting some of the top digital marketers in the world.

ALL OF THEM agreed on one thing. Your business email list is your most valuable marketing asset but ONLY if it is leveraged properly.

The problem is that a list needs to be nurtured, pruned, and taken care of like if it was a precious bonsai tree or a delicate flower.

A neglected list will go stale and wither slowly until it becomes unresponsive and unable to bear fruit.

After getting expert advice, it was obvious I’ve had neglected my list (you) for way too long…

I was sending an email about twice a year when the minimum recommended is 10 times that and the optimum frequency is about once a week.

When that happens the best way to revive a list is to reset it.

This could be done over a series of weekly emails but I wanted to get fast results so I opted for the daily bombardement route. (again I apologize for it)

The result is that people not interested will unsubscribe leaving only those that are interested or inactive (not opening emails).

Those that don’t open a single email can be pruned (deleted) because most likely are invalid addresses or have marked you as spam.

If we go back to the list/plant analogy sending an email to your list it’s like watering a plant.

It needs to be done regularly and with nutritious water (good content).
If you poor acid (shitty emails) your plant may die, or even worse, it may mutate and try to kill you before it does (email complaints).

If you send too many emails you can end up drowning your list. If you don’t do it enough your list will shrivel up and die.

I must admit I’ve drowned some old loyal subscribers and it hurts to see them go but I totally understand why – Our inboxes are sacred territory and we should only let in those that provide value and don’t abuse our trust.

I don’t want to abuse your trust anymore so it comes to this…

Today, if you are reading this, it means you’ve survived the email apocalypse and you’ve proven with your patience that you do have some interest in what I have to say, share, or teach.

For that I just want to say THANK YOU!

Thank you for sticking around, for being so awesome and I’ll promise to do my best to keep being worthy of your inbox.

Peace, Love and much respect,

Miguel
